The Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties, Inc. (JLKD) is an entirely female volunteer-based organization that provides literacy, school readiness and other programs to benefit at-risk youth in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will counties. The organization is currently seeking new members who want to make an impact in the community, receive valuable training and connect with dynamic women.

“JLKD promotes voluntarism by developing the potential of women and impacts our communities by utilizing trained volunteers to effect change while helping those who need us most,” explains JLKD President Alissa Johnson Tripas.

JLKD promotes early childhood literacy and school readiness through strategic partnerships with area service agencies, public libraries, underserved schools and educational/literacy-based organizations through their Story Wizards Project.  Oftentimes, children receive their first book from JLKD.  The League’s Done In A Day projects help meet local emergency needs of local organizations like the West Suburban Community Pantry, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Mutual Ground, Inc. and Teen Parent Connection, among others. The Junior Leagues’ Kids In The Kitchen initiative combats childhood obesity by teaching local children about healthy foods and nutrition.  JLKD also works with other Illinois Leagues on advocacy issues surrounding early childhood literacy.

“We appreciate JLKD members supporting our school and acting as strong female role models,” says Scott Hart, Executive Director, Mooseheart Child City & School.

Join JLKD by completing an online application or email join@jlkd.org with questions about upcoming volunteer opportunities.  For more information about JLKD, visit www.jlkd.org.
