Hundreds Volunteer to Revitalize Kendall County in One Day

Organizers with The Big Day of Serving provided the following news release:

Right now Kendall Country residents, local businesses, churches & youth groups are banding together and preparing over 600 volunteers to spend one day doing service projects in our community.   We call it The Big Day of Serving

Did you know that Kendall County, once the fastest growing county in America, now has the highest rate of foreclosure in America?  The Big Day of Serving can bring help and hope to the many organizations and families who are struggling or have no one to help them…all the while preparing our teens for a life of service and bringing our community closer together.

Do you know someone who could benefit from some community service?   It may be an organization who just doesn’t have the budget or manpower to put together a play set at a park, landscape a community center or clean up a vacant lot.  Many organizations have lost funding, grants and staff.

It may be a senior citizen who needs a front porch repaired or a single parent who has been sick and needs a house scraped and painted.  There are needs all around you.  To request help for an organization or family in your neighborhood, apply on line at www.hiscross.org by clicking on the Big Day of Serving button or email serviceday2012@gmail.com or call 630-553-7335 x105.

Guess who is going to be doing the work… teens!!!   They will be led by adults who are volunteering their planning abilities, knowledge, and supervision to show the teens (or your teens) step by step what to do.  So this is an opportunity to prepare our young people for a life of service to our community.   If you’re a parent looking to teach your teens the importance of giving back, of helping those in need in their community, to get them away from video games and TV for a day, or for a way to volunteer together with your teen, fill out a volunteer application at  www.hiscross.org or call 630-553-7335 x105.

If you would like to help make this event possible by donating funds or supplies like nails and hammers, dumpsters, landscaping supplies, lunch for our volunteer workers on September 15, signs or  banners so volunteers know where to go, please visit www.hiscross.org for sponsorship options,  email joe@jreedassoc.com  or call 708-284-8721.  Your business could be affiliated with the revitalization of Kendall County and included in our publicity - featured on our website and Facebook pages, T-shirts, and banners at our Kickoff Rally and closing Block Party Celebration.   Sherwin Williams and Lakeview Grill are the first two sponsors for this event.

Churches and youth groups who want to be a part of The Big Day of Serving should sign up on www.thebigdayofserving.com.

Sept. 15 is the actual day of serving. Let me see if there are any deadlines coming up that we all need to know about.
