Residents Asked to Keep Eye Out for Emerald Ash Borer

  • April 10, 2011

Oswego officials report that the Emerald Ash Borer was found in Oswego in September 2010.

The only way to stop the spread of the insect is to destroy infested trees and by detecting infestations early before they can spread to other trees.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture wants residents to be aware that because it takes a few years for infested trees to show symptoms of disease, it may appear that healthy trees are being destroyed, when they are indeed infected.

I live in the deer path creek subdivision and I am 95 percent sure the one in my backyard is infested. It's slowly dying and I have seen a few woodpeckers feeding off of it for the first time since I have lived here. It provides abundant shade for my home and I am not sure i can part with it. It is worth saving. It is Sad that the public works can't buy the treatment for the ones that are infected in the parkways. These trees are a part of the landscape and the ecosystem. All the money coming into this county you would think they could spend it more wisely.
