Capt. Brandon Lee Cyr, 28, Passed After Plane Crash in Afghanistan

Visitaiton for Capt. Brandon Cyr will take place on Wednesday, May 8 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Oswego. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. in Aurora.

Capt. Brandon Lee Cyr, USAF, 28 years, of Shiloh, IL, family of Oswego, IL died while serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, when the plane he was commanding crashed in Afghanistan on Saturday, April 27, 2013. He was born September 16, 1984 in Aspen, CO the son of CDR Phillip G Cyr, U.S. Navy and Deborah A (Tidaback) Cyr.

Brandon was a member of the 906th Air Refueling Squadron stationed at Scott Air Force Base in IL where he played a vital role in the Total Force Integrated 126th Air Refueling Wing.

A spirited officer, pilot, and friend, Capt. Cyr was known for his natural ability to lead and mentor others. At the time of his death, he had earned more than 1,700 flying hours - 900 of those in combat. He had received the Meritorious Service Medal, five Air Medals, and an Achievement Medal.

Survivors include his parents Phillip and Debbie Cyr of Alexandria, VA; his older sister Bobbi Jo Cyr of Oswego, IL; maternal grandparents Darryl and Diane Tidaback of Paducah, KY

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 8. 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory,  1801 Douglas Road  Oswego, IL.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St Mark’s Lutheran Church,  27 S Edgelawn Drive  Aurora, IL.

Internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date with full military honors.

In addition, the Department of Central Management Services of Oswego 308received notice from Governor Quinn's Office that entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act are to fly the flags at half-staff from May 7 until May 9 on behalf of United States Air Force Captain Brandon L. Cyr of Oswego.    

Brandon was loved by many but will be remembered by all - a true American Hero!

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to: The Capt. Brandon L Cyr Memorial Scholarship fund for AFJROTC students, 906 Air Refueling Squadron c/o Cindy Self, 2151 Golf Course Road, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois  62225.
