Churchill Student Takes State Gymnastic Championship

Madelyn Heinrich goes from wheelchair to state title in matter of months.

Oswego resident and fourth-grader, Madelyn Heinrich, competed at the USAG Level 5 State Championship in DeKalb on March 31. Madelyn clinched the championship's All Around title, taking first place on Balance Beam, Floor Exercise and All Around, and second place on Vault and Uneven Bars.

Madelyn's victorious season wasn't a foregone conclusion.  After two late summer injuries, Madelyn started the year confined to a wheelchair and for months, was only able to participate in conditioning.

By late fall, she was back in action and enjoyed a very successful season, including clinching a spot on the America’s Top 100 for a Balance Beam score of 9.750 and an All Around score of 38.250.  Madelyn is a proud member of Phenom Gymnastics, for whom she competed at the State Championship meet.
