Dunkin' Donuts Heading Back to Town

Drive-through gets go-ahead from trustees.

When the Gas City gas station at routes 34 and 71 was bought out by Speedway in May, Oswego’s only Dunkin’ Donuts went with it.

Now, it seems as if the famous coffee and donut merchant may be headed back to town. A proposal for a drive-through store at the east end of the retail strip that houses Chipotle, Vision Works, Sport Clips and Jersey Mike's on Route 34 was approved by the Village Board Tuesday night.

The store’s developer, Bud Patel, is proposing a 24-hour drive-through for the location which requires an amendment to the planned unit development in the Prairie Market shopping center. The drive-through would be located at the rear of the building. Village staff recommended approving the drive-through amendment along with another for signage on the store.

Trustees approved both as part of their consent agenda.

Community Development Director Rod Zenner said he was not aware of a time frame of when the location would open. The owner also owns the adjacent Jersey Mike’s shop and has been working to open that store. Jersey Mike's opened today.

My husband is a die-hard DD fan and nearly sprung out of bed this morning when I shared this news. Glad to have another business coming to town and grateful to Mr. Patel for truly investing in making his businesses work here.

IF I were on the board I would not approve it, as a few blocks away you have lil sisters donut shop opening soon on jackson and rte 34. With all do respect, how do you expect people who come to this town to and bring business to succeed? Why not consider something else.

Seriously???? Are you for real??? An "adult" store is what you propose instead of a Dunkin' Donuts?

Thats a good thing your not on the board. Why would you turn away tax dollars? Its almost 3 miles away from the new donut shop downtown. What does studio21 or Pleasure chest have anything to do with a DD opening anyway? Why do so many folks get so off topic on here? People are always crying about big box stores and national chains. I am pro small business too, but the fact is they pay the bills for this town. You want your street plowed tomorrow right? Guess who pays for most of that. Welcome DD

Woo hoo! My kids would love to be able to get a treat every now and again! I literally was looking at a DD booklet of coupons today and thinking it's too bad that it isn't easy to load them up and pick up a dozen donuts on Saturday mornings. It was so fun as a kid to go with my dad and get donuts for the family every so often!

I'm not a fan of their donuts, but I do like their coffee. Can't wait for the downtown Oswego shop to open!

This article cracks me up. Plainfield is begging to get business into town like Oswego has. We are fighting the 4th Dunkin Donuts coming to a 2ish mile section of Route 59. Oswego, on the other hand, is begging for a Dunkin Donuts and is tired of seeing big box stores. :o)

Yep, you're better off shopping at Walmart.

The coffee, however, is good.

The new Doughnut shop down off 34 on the other hands has doughnuts that are worth it.

I agree with you, Jeff. Maybe I'm getting old (hope not!) but DD donut's are a guaranteed case of heartburn, plus they get stale with an hour after you bring them home. Coffee's great, tho.

We like the Mik's Donut place by Walgreens. Their baked goods are DELICIOUS!
