Oswego to Spend $1.6 Million on Street Repair
The full list of streets to be resurfaced between mid-July and the end of September is below.
The village of Oswego will spend just more than $1.6 million to resurface 18 stretches of road this summer, including the portion of Wolf Road from Route 71 to Route 30.
On Tuesday, the Village Board unanimously agreed to award this year’s resurfacing contract to Geneva Construction, the lowest of three bidders, according to Public Works Director Jerry Weaver. The work should begin in mid-July, he said, and will all be finished by September 28, if not before.
Weaver said the village is able to resurface more roads than usual this year, due to a $1 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. About $325,000 of the cost will be paid for with motor fuel tax funds, Weaver said, and the rest of the bill footed by Oswego Township, since Wolf Road runs through unincorporated areas.
Weaver said the stretch of Wolf Road, the longest portion of road to be resurfaced in 2012, will be done first, and in time for school to begin. And Village President Brian LeClercq said police enforcement will increase once the road is smoother.
The full cost of the resurfacing project is $1,606,177.25. The full list of streets to be resurfaced:
- Wolf Road, from Route 71 to Route 30.
- Adams Street, from Route 34 to Van Buren Road.
- Hawthorn Court.
- Old Post Road, from Old Post School to Douglas Road.
- Pfund Court, from Route 34 to the dead end.
- Fairway Crossings streets: Chesterfield Drive, Cinderford Drive, Cinderford Court, Landshire Court, Preswick Court, Tewksbury Circle, Tewksbury Court, Thornbury Drive, Thornbury Court.
- New Windcrest streets: Lombardy Lane, Longford Court, Nottingham Drive, Nottingham Court.

When is the Wolf Road resurfacing going to start? Is the whloe route from 71 to 30 going to be shut down both ways during the project?

They really need to find a way to widen Wolf road from 71 to 30...but it does need to be resurfaced too.

I agree! It would cut down on congestion and on the amount of accidents. Not to mention, Wolf and Douglas needs a four way light. That will definitely cut down on accidents there.

Wolf and Douglas is not a 4 way stop in the present form. Douglas takes a jog at Wolf. If you want a 4 way stop, Douglas would have to be realigned.

Do you mean Wolf and 5th? That left hand turn from 5th on to Wolf is dangerous. Especially for teenaged drivers going to school.

I used to ride my bike on many of the rural roads around Oswego years ago when the shoulders of many of these roads were at grade. It seems that in recent years that the shoulders have been dug out really deep. Anyone who might accidently drive off the road, like in the winter, is in for quite a tumble.

On May 2nd, there were 20 streets slated for resurfacing. On May 14th, Steve Jack apologized for leaving Minkler off of the list. Now, June 21st there are 18 streets slated for resurfacing. Minkler seems to be gone again. If this is true, the village board needs to drive the stretch from Rt 71 to Hunt Club. Would you feel good about your children on a school bus driving to elementary school? Since we still DO NOT have Collins Road finished from Grove to Minkler (which would be ideal for getting our children to school safely), Minkler Road NEEDS TO BE on this list of streets to fix. What say you, Brian LeClercq?
