Readers' Choice: On Cinco de Mayo, Who Has the Best Mexican Food?

Local favorite wins hands down.

It's Cinco de Mayo, and it's time to start thinking about where you'll get your tacos, enchiladas and margaritas tonight.

According to Patch readers, La Cabana D'Oswego is the place to be. After a couple of dozen votes, the Mexican staple located in the same strip as Ace Hardware won by a large margin over Arandas Tacos off of Route 30.

Here's just a sampling of what some of La Cabana's loyal customers had to say:

Eliana: I've been to this restaurant many times over the past several years, as well. I've never been disappointed. Their portions are great, tacos delicious, chips and salsa are a must! Often buy more chips and salsa to take home.

Penny: "Want Mexcian tonight?" My husband and I have been eating at LaCabana for several years now almost weekly. I especially love the tacos, enchiladas and nachos. My husband loves everything. The lettuce with french dressing that comes with most meals is amazing. The complimentary chips and salsa are really yummy. All the staff are wonderful and Angelica is delightful. When we have guests from out of town, we often take them here.

Connie: The food is authentic and flavorful, and we LOVE the salsa! (We often grab some to go after our meal to have on hand for snacks!) The margaritas are also very good. The number one reason we go so often is because the people that own the business, as well as the additional staff, are all really nice, friendly people and they make us feel like we've come home for a visit.

Authentic? Not really. This is obviously a favorite of people who haven't tasted real Mexican food. The chips here are too hard and taste burnt. Lettuce with french dressing? What's Mexican about that? Every tine I've been to La Cabana, there is hardly anyone there, and there are never any Hispanic people eating there except for the owner. To me, that's a telling sign about the food. Arrandas is better, way more authentic, and packed every time I go.

That doesn't sound right. I've been to both places multiple times and I aways thought Arandas flavor was much better than the very bland tasting La cabana.
