Wolf Crossing Road Weight Restrictions Announced

Limit will help to keep the road safe for many years.

If your vehicle weighs 20,000 pounds you'll want to find a new route around parts of Wolf Crossing Road.

According to the Oswego Police Department, the majority of the resurfacing work being done on Wolf Crossing Road between Route 71 and Route 30 should be completed by Friday, August 24, weather permitting.

To ensure that the condition of the road does not deteriorate unnecessarily the Oswego Police will be enforcing weight restrictions along the roadway.

Currently, Wolf Crossing Road from Stonehill Road to Route 30 is designated as a 20,000 pound Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) per local ordinance (9-7-6 Gross Vehicle Weight Designated).

The Oswego Police Department, along with public compliance, hopes to keep the newly improved roadway surface safe for many years.

Does this also include Type "C" School Busses which weigh over 20k lbs? Or will they be given a pass from the Oswego Police department....

Paul -- I spoke with the OPD and they said the buses we use are under the 20k limit. It's only for a portion of the road right now, so I would imagine if we were using a C bus for transporation, it would just be sent to a different area of Oswego.

All large buses that transport students weigh over 26,000 lbs, So what's the school district going to do use a bunch of smaller buses? What about moving trucks, tow trucks, plow trucks, landscaper trucks,? All have local business on the roads that connect to wolfs..

You all are talking as if this is a huge issue to not drive on Wolf. Just find a different route if your vehicle is to heavy. That simple. It's not like they're doing it to be mean, they're doing it for the road to stay safe.

Maybe Smokingdiesel isn't just his (or her) name, maybe it's a hobby?

71 passenger buses depending on their manufacturer usually come in at somewhere between 15,000 and 17,000 empty. By the way, the empty weight of any school bus is posted on the side of the bus right near the service door. With either 60 or so smaller kids or 40 or so high school kids, generally bus company people assume another MAXIMUM of about 6000 lbs in load. Smaller buses are usually around 12,000 empty and of course carry fewer kids. Given the volume of bus traffic I see on Wolf's Crossing each day, I can hardly imagine the nightmare restricting bus traffic from there would become. Of course, the district could just tell all those kids to walk, right?

Does anyone know the exact answer to this? Judging from these responses it seems Oswego hasn't thought through another plan.

Hey I'm happy to hear the OPD will have a new source of revenue! It's seems that they should of focussed on this problem years ago before the road became a gravel pit. I guess they'll need to shut down the industrial park and send all that commerce to China.
