Oswego's "Movies in the Park" Line Up Announced for Summer

All of the family-feature films are rated G or PG.

What goes together better than a movie and popcorn? A movie and a park (although the popcorn is always a great addition). The Village of Oswego's Cultural Arts Commission is once more hosting "Movies in the Park" for your free viewing pleasure during the summer months. The films are all rated G or PG for a family-friendly flick.  They begin around 8:30 p.m. or whenever it is "dusk" and dark enough for the film at the Village Green Park, located behind the Oswego Post office. You'll want to remember to bring lawn chairs, snacks and blankets to enjoy the movie.  The first film kicks off on June 5, just a few weeks away. Check out the full line up with a summary of each film and start planning your summer Wednesdays. June 5 – “Tangled” Rated …

That would be a nice option. It's a shame more theaters don't have fun with showing classic movies.   more ›

Who Is Performing at Oswego's Beats and Eats? Take a Listen

Four music acts thus far have been signed to perform at the first Oswego Beats and Eats in August.

Things are really starting to roll for the first Oswego Beats and Eats outdoor music festival.  The festival, which will be hosted between the Village of Oswego and Oswego businessman and resident Macey Brooks, wants to celebrate diversity through music, art and food.  Community relations manager Michele Brown said the festival hopes to draw in a different demographic - like those in their twenties - that current festivals in Oswego do not reach. Beat and Eats is set for Saturday, Aug. 10 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Prairie Point Park. But what's a festival without some music? Four musical acts have thus far been signed on to perform at the festival with more on their way. Check out their official sites below and listen to their music in …

So far not so good IMO. Look at the other festivals happening in the area (Tinley Park) for the same price if not cheaper. Not sure what demographic you are going for with this lineup (I am assuming its the 50 and over crowd).   more ›

Letter: Fox Valley Chorus Extends Thanks for Performance Location

Send your letters to the editor to natalie.stevens@patch.com.

The Fox Valley Festival Chorus would like to express their gratitude to The Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist of Oswego for allowing us to perform our first Carnegie Hall preview performance of John Rutter’s Requiem at the church on Saturday, April 13. The concert would not have been possible without the efforts of a number of people, especially Jacquie Weirich. Many members of the Chorus live in or have ties to the Oswego-Montgomery area, which made performing for a “home” crowd especially meaningful. Many members of the Chorus will be performing the same work on Memorial Day at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Linda Quantock

Oswego Plans to Host New Festival 'Beats and Eats' this Summer

The festival held at Prairie Point Park will celebrate the diversity of music, food and art.

Didn't get enough music and food at Prairiefest?  There might be a new option coming this summer to Oswego called Beats and Eats, an all-day outdoor concert.  Community relations manager Michele Brown said at Tuesday night's Village Board meeting the festival would focus on all genres of music and would feature up and coming artists from both around the area and the region. "We hope to reach a demographic we feel is not being met with any of our current events," said Brown. The festival was brought to the Village by Oswego businessman and resident Macey Brooks with the idea to celebrate diversity through music, art and food.  "We felt [the festival] was a good fit for our community," said Brown. "It would help attract new people to the …
