Have you seen the recent national report on childhood obesity in the United States? Obesity now affects 17% of all children and adolescents in the United States – triple the rate from just one generation ago! Amazing, right? Children who are obese, are at greater risk of developing diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and other chronic life threatening conditions. In years past, today’s adult generation would play outdoors, limit our television time, and of course there were no video games, internet, or cell phones!
Today our youth and adolescents are bombarded with movement limiting activities which they very easily succumb to because they are not motivated to simply get up and get out and exercise! Here at the Oswego Family YMCA it is our passion to reverse this trend in our children!
The Oswego Family YMCA has many youth sports leagues available to get children off the sofa and into the gym, pool, or onto the field. Sports like flag football, basketball, floor hockey, soccer, volleyball, and swim get children motivated to move, stress teamwork, and builds a camaraderie that is life changing. To that end, come out and play with us here at the Oswego Family YMCA, Friday, September 28, 2012 during our Family Fun Sports Night, from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Compete with your kids in several sports events such as basketball, hockey, lacrosse, volleyball and more! All youth will receive a participation ribbon! Come see what YMCA sports can offer your family! Ages K-8th are invited, members and non-members welcome. Pizza, drinks and popcorn will be available for purchase.
