You can look up your bill in Will County as well www.willcountytaxbill.com/. Again this year my assessed value went down on my property but my 1.56% increase raised my taxes $1000 from last year. This is really getting out of control. If they raise it like this yet again next year I will officially pay more in taxes each month then I pay on my mortgage.   more ›

Letter: Disappointed with Voter Turnout, Financial Position of the Village

Send your letters to the editor to natalie.stevens@patch.com.

It is disappointing to see that the voter turnout for the recent election was only 11% in Kendall County.    The local offices in this election is where the property  tax is decided; therefore, it was this election where the voters had power to elect candidates that were or would be fiscally responsible.   In the April 11 Ledger that carried the low voter results was an article where the Oswego Village Finance Director stated that the village was in an excellent financial position and that the budget presented does not include any fee or tax hikes for residents.   The village financial position was not  good four years ago so it is hard to understand why voters did not reelect one of the trustees who was responsible for the improvement in …

These major referendums for voter turnout MUST be done in conjunction with the normal November general elections. It must be on the ballot with the federal and state candidates running for office. People are geared to vote every 4 years or 2 and not having elections in between, it is not important to them hence the low turnout. The reason our taxes are skyrocketing is our school district 308 is …   more ›

ELECTION 2013: Voter Turnout in Kendall, Kane, Will Counties

Kendall had a four year local election low in voting turnout for the April 2013 election.

On Tuesday, 11.52 percent of voters made it out to the polls in Kendall County to vote in this year's election, according to the Kendall County Clerk's website.  That turnout is the lowest in the last four local elections in Kendall County, down about 5 percent from the April 2011 election. Kendall County had the lowest turnout for this year's election compared to other surrounding counties. Comparably speaking, during last fall's presidential election, 69.04 percent of registered voters made it to the polls in Kendall County.  Here is how other area counties compared:

The results are sad, considering that we're all Americans with great freedoms and a civic duty to vote for our elected officials. This has nothing to do with the amount of taxes we pay.   more ›

Letter: Randy Hultgren Has No Credibility

Send your letters to the editor to natalie.stevens@patch.com.

Ever since his election as our congressman of the 14th congressional district in Illinois, it is safe to say that Randy Hultgren has never agreed with President Obama.  One can make the argument that Randy has very little respect for the president.  You can make this conclusion by reading the various statements on Randy’s official web site under his press release section.  One area that Randy has always had a strong disagreement with the President on is his fiscal policies as it relates to government spending and tax policy.  Most recently Randy stated in February 2013 after the State of the Union that President Obama has “no credibility” when it comes deficit reduction.  Randy has made every attempt to repeal Obamacare on March 26, 2012, …

Oswego 308 Election Too Close to Call, Problems at Kane County Clerk's Office

The Oswego 308 board of education election is down to the wire, but computer errors prevent a final, unofficial winner from being announced.

Update, 8:50 a.m. Kane County did not have any Oswego 308 voters so the total is as below. However, due to the close count (3 votes) Patch is witholding announcing the fourth board member until confirmation. We will keep you posted as we hear information. Original If there was a race in Oswego that came to a nail-biter, the Oswego 308 board of education would be it. Computer problems at the Kane County Clerk's Office have left the votes inconclusive, as 0 percent of voters have reported in, according to their website.  Six candidates are vying for four seats on the board, one of which must be filled by an unincorporated candidate. The three candidates with large leads include Matthew Bauman with 2,341, Danielle Paul with 2,034 and Gregory …

No Changes at Oswegoland Park Board, One New Face at Library Board

Roy White holds onto position as park board commissioner and Craig Weber joins the library board.

The Oswegoland Park District board and Oswego Library board unofficial votes are in. Roy White, an incumbent for the Oswegoland Park board, held onto his seat and beat out newcomer Alvin P. "Phil" Smith for a six-year term. Over on the Library side, all three incumbents running -- Terry Tamblyn, Vernita Hettrich and Kandi Ream -- kept their seats. They are joined by newcomer Craig Weber, who previously served on the library board and has worked over 35 years in Education as a reading specialist and learning center director. Newcomer Evelyn Givens, sports editor for the Kendall Weekly Times, did not garner enough votes. View all of the final vote totals for all Oswego races here. ----- Read:

One New Face Joins Oswego Village Board of Trustees

Incumbents Judy Sollinger and Scott Volpe will return for another four-year term and will be joined by newcomer Pam Parr.

The Oswego Village Board of Trustees will see one new face in the spring. Pam Parr, a management consultant and trainer at Face to Face Communications who ran on a Pro-Oswego, Pro-business platform, will join incumbents Scott Volpe and Judy Sollinger after the three received the highest unofficial vote totals in the 2013 election. Three challengers -- Ryan Kauffman, Scott Finkenbinder and Ken Duda -- and one incumbent -- Jeff Lawson -- were not elected to the board. Jeff Lawson, who works for Costco Wholesale, has served as a village trustee since May 2009. View all of the final vote totals for all Village races here. ----- Read:

Good. I'm glad to see a more "pro-oswego" mindset in the Oswego board. I believe the no-incentive/anti-business reputation of the previous board, plus the bone headed decision to abolish the OEDC were mistakes that finally caught up with Oswego. Big businesses looking to locate here expect incentives, and all the board has to do, is be able to perform or understand a proper cost benefit analysis…   more ›

Letter: Thoughts on Election Candidates

Send your letters to the editor to natalie.stevens@patch.com.

Recent letters have given false information concerning candidates. One letter touted support and success of TIFs and claimed the cost for the village economic director to be $205,000 when his salary is $93,000 and has no other paid staff.  Look no further than Yorkville for TIF success where what was Countryside Center has sat vacant for more than 5 years.  Businesses go where the market is and do not require TIFs which gives money to developers at the expense of taxpayers. These campaign tactics are used when their candidates do not have a record to run on.  Lawson and Volpe have served the taxpayers well as village trustees by controlling development, lowering expenses and salary for the administrator.  They should be reelected to …

When you say "controlling" development you are right about that Lee. The downtown area looks exactly the same as it did when they (Lawson and Volpe) were elected. If they are given another term it will continue to look that way and people are going to keep driving through Oswego when looking new opportunities. Time for some new people on the board where they won't just sit there with their arms …   more ›
