I feel compelled to respond to trustees Volpe and Lawson’s claim of saving the village money as misleading. They as a group voted to stop funding the Oswego economic development corporation to bring it under the villages control resulting in an increase in cost from $80,000 to over $200,000. They also declined to lift the gambling ban for video gaming resulting in the loss of revenue for the village and also resulting in the closing of two businesses. They decided to not act on the Alexander lumber property so we continue to have an eyesore that it is right at the gateway to our village. Their lack of consistency regarding overnight parking regulations. These are just a few of their decisions that prompted me to declare my candidacy for …

Dear Editor: Jeff Lawson & Scott Volpe have more than earned our vote for reelection as Oswego Village Trustee. They have balanced our budgets; found and passed on cost savings to taxpayers; rescued the water and sewer fund from insolvency; and returned Oswego to a solid footing while lowering the Village’s property tax rate. Let’s keep them working for the taxpayers of Oswego. Alvin P. “Phil” Smith for Park District Commissioner— Summa Cum Laude CPA graduate from NIU; DePaul Law School graduate, licensed attorney in Illinois; experienced financial auditor with two CPA firms, and most importantly a strong fiscal conservative with fresh ideas and the taxpayer’s interest at heart. He goal is to lower property tax rates. Greg O’Neil …

We are voting for Judy Sollinger, Pam Parr, and Ryan Kauffman for Oswego trustees who will energize Oswego’s economy by making decisions that will move us forward instead of stagnation. A couple of men running for re-election are costing us money and our future. They malign Pam Parr for working with Trustee Gail Johnson in Face to Face Communications. That rings as a winning combination to us, but is unfamiliar to the men’s one way communication – their way or the highway. We observed a couple years ago as over 100 businesses, school, park, and fire districts, library, township, and county members pled with them to set up a TIF for Alexander Lumber to no avail. Communities including Aurora, Montgomery, and Yorkville are building for …

On April 9th please join me in supporting my daughter Evelyn Givens as one of our representatives to the Oswego Public Library. Moving here in 2008 the library was one of the first places we visited and it was an experience that helped to make our family part of the community. When my daughters were little, they would spend countless hours at the library and learning the gifts of knowledge. Evelyn would take that love of learning and earn a master’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University and would continue to share with her son the love of reading. The values of our district of learning, community and sharing of knowledge are things that our family hold dear. Evelyn will serve our district and continue to advocate the current …

Dear Editor: As a taxpayer I’ve attended Oswegoland Park District Board meetings for two years. Permit me to comment on the upcoming Park Commissioner election. In my opinion, Commissioner Roy White has abandoned the voters’ interests. I regret that I voted for him. It became clear early on that Roy White was influenced by the three long-standing Commissioners, and left his reform Commissioner, Mr. Leonard Wass, out to dry. Mr. Wass could not even get Mr. White to second his motions, one example being Mr. Wass’ motion to rebid the legal contract to make sure the taxpayers were getting the best deal. Another example is in the transcript of an Executive Session, ordered released by the State’s Attorney when he found Mr. White …

I am posting to the Patch for the first time today to voice my support of Ryan Kauffman, candidate for Oswego Village Board. I have known Ryan for several years, and my family has built a friendship with his over our mutual love for our town. Like me, Ryan has moved to Oswego with the intention of raising a family and building a life here. It is with this passion for Oswego and his vision for the future in mind that he has decided to run for Village Board. Ryan believes that to decrease unemployment in Oswego and to revive our local economy, the Village Board needs to partner with businesses instead of treating them as opposition. We need to encourage local businesses to grow here instead of in neighboring towns. He would like to …
