Batter Up! Local Author’s Debut Novel Brings Fantasy Baseball to a New Level

Imagine a world where the term “fantasy baseball” means more than having Derek Jeter, Anthony Rizzo and Prince Fielder united together on the same team playing ball on a virtual field. Instead your opponents are shape-changing vampires, towering yetis and high-flying superheroes. Also, in this fantasy baseball world there is much more at stake than bragging rights with your friends.

In his debut novel, The Big Leagues, author Chris Petersen of Aurora conjures a world where hero and star pitcher Sparky Katakura must turn around a washed up former superstar, a rusty robot, a lazy god of thunder and other assorted benchwarmers on his team into a winning ball club. If Sparky fails, his brother and teammates will forever be prisoners of the dark underworld of baseball. With road trips that take him from the North Pole to outer space, Sparky will need to re-learn the fundamentals of the game he loves, the chemistry of the locker room and the mind-bending superhuman skills he’ll need to win it all in The Big Leagues.

A young adult novel, The Big Leagues appeals to baseball fans of all ages. Adults will especially enjoy the hidden Easter eggs about the legendary ball players and icons of Chicago.
