Oswego International Elite Gymnast Qualifies for National Championship

Oswego resident and Oswego East sophomore, Marissa Oakley, qualified for the P&G (National) Gymnastics Championships meet on July 5, 2014, at the American Classic Elite Meet at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Houston, Texas. Oakley, who trains at Phenom Gymnastics in Oswego, finished 9th place in the All Around and earned 2nd place on balance beam at the meet. She is one of 15 of the country’s 35 Junior International Elite gymnasts who qualified, as well as the only gymnast from Region 5—Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan—to advance to the national championship meet.

“We are so proud of Marissa, her incredible work ethic, her wonderfully supportive teammates and their parents, and of course, our coaches,” says Phenom owner and head coach, Jessica Holtz. “This success is a result of team work and we truly appreciate all the support.” Oakley is a “home-grown” Phenom gymnast, who has been training at the gym since age 7.
