Park Foundation Sponsor A Tree Program Launched

Tree huggers unite! The Oswegoland Park & Recreation Foundation is seeking community support to fund relocation of scores of mature trees from a local farm to parks throughout the Oswegoland Park District. The trees are generously being donated by Lea Ann Koch of Koch Farms, however funds are needed to transport and plant the trees.

“’We have an opportunity to further beautify area parks and in particular replace large ash trees which have died this past year,” says Ken Holmstrom, chairman of the Park Foundation. “The Park Foundation is earmarking up to $7,500 to facilitate moving these trees this fall and we are asking families and businesses in our community to offset expenses with sponsorships.”

The trees, valued at $500-$1,000 each, require a tree spade and crew to move and replant. The foundation is requesting sponsors make a tax-deductible donation of $250 per tree to cover expenses. Sponsors will be recognized at a special dedication event April 2014 in conjunction with Arbor Day, and will also receive a Friends of the Park membership.

Local residents who are passionate about securing the beauty of our natural environment formed the Oswegoland Park & Recreation Foundation in 2005. The tax-exempt organization supports the goals of the Oswegoland Park District and offers residents options for tax-deductible cash and land donations “for a greener tomorrow.” Projects have included partnering with the Conservation Foundation to preserve a key parcel of Reservation Woods and the ongoing commemorative brick paver program in Hudson Crossing Park.
