Rep. Chapa LaVia Opens New Aurora Special Education School

(Aurora, IL) – An Illinois lawmaker was on hand to "cut the ribbon" for a new special education school that opened in Aurora last week.

State Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia (D-Aurora) officiated last Thursday, August 29, at the "grand opening" of the new, 200-student CORE Academy special education school in Aurora, which is operated by the Aurora-based Menta Group.

Menta's CORE Academy will serve more than a dozen area school districts, including: East/West Aurora, Naperville, Wheaton, Elgin, Batavia, Kaneland, Oswego, Plainfield, Carpentersville, DeKalb, Kendal, Downers Grove, Yorkville, Plano, Sugar Grove, St. Charles, Burlington, Romeoville, Bollingbrook, Elmhurst, West Chicago, Lombard, Addiston, West Dundee and others in Kane, Dekalb, Will, Dupage, and Kendal County.

Currently, Menta, which operates 9 schools in Illinois, operates two other schools in Aurora: Fox Tech and the Aurora Education Center, according to its president, Kenneth Carwell.
