August 22 is the first day of school for Oswego 308 students.
It’s also ‘Mom’s Day Out’ in downtown Oswego, where all ladies are invited to the annual ‘Twist and Shout’ celebration put on by local businesses from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
According to Dianne Krachtus, owner of the , this year’s theme is ‘South of the Border’.’
“All of the shops are serving something related to the theme,” said Krachtus. Marmalade Tree is doing a type of dessert while others are doing margaritas, entrees and snacks.
“By the time you’re done walking around downtown, you’ll have eaten a full meal,” said Krachtus.
Stores that are participating in ‘Twist and Shout’ can be identified by the balloons outside of the shop.
Besides food, the stores will be featuring ‘last chance summer sales’ as well as a preview of fall merchandise.
But best of all, said Krachtus, is the giant yellow elephant piñata that will be available at 1:00 p.m. on Main Street.
The piñata won’t have the normal candy in it, although there may still be some, said Krachtus. Instead, it will be full of gift cards for the local stores, little gifts like earrings or scarves. Every store is contributing a few items for the piñata.
“You’ll really want to be there,” said Krachtus.
