Emerald Ash Borer Invades Fox Bend

Trees are being removed first along Route 34 and the golf course's parking lot.

If you’ve driven along Route 34 by Fox Bend Golf Course and think the tree line looks a little thinner, you’d be right.

The pesky Emerald Ash Borer, which first came to Oswego in 2010, has made its way to Fox Bend Golf Couse.

“If you’ve driven past… you may have seen a few trees come down,” said Oswegoland Park District executive director Rich Zielke. “It was not a disgruntled golfer,” he added.

Zielke said they have identified 93 trees at the golf course that need to come down, but only about 30 of those trees were in critical areas, like along Route 34 or the parking lot.

“Unfortunately they come down a lot quicker than they go up,” said Zielke.

He said the Park District is taking security measures to make sure that golf balls don’t end up where they shouldn’t be – like your windshield as you drive along Route 34.
