Heat Wave Turns Thoughts to the Aquatic Park

The Oswego Civic Center is the place to be this summer

The pool is open! It’s time to play. School is over and the fun begins. So get out your bathing suits, sunblock, and towels and head over the the , located on Ashlawn Avenue.

The pool has a couple of new features this year, including an extended deck and large sun umbrellas. You will also find some of the things you loved from years past. The pool hosts swimming lessons, barbeques and holiday parties, as well as birthday parties. The three slides include two drop slides and one twirly slide.

The pools help you play with kids of any age. The toddler pool is full of fun things to touch and play with. The big kids pool has a shallow end for beginners, and a deep end for the more advanced swimmer. Both pools are heated to a nice temperature, even though you don’t need it with weather like we have this weekend!

For a break from swimming, you can head to the sand box to dig in the sand. There is also a nice grassy hill where kids can run around and get all that energy out before bedtime. If you’re hungry, the grill is actually really good. They have hamburgers and hotdogs, along with any normal concession stand fare: chips, drinks, candy, ice cream. You can also bring your own food from home and enjoy the shaded eating area by the backyard grill.

We have been getting season passes to the pool since we moved in seven years ago. If you go more than 8 times a summer, it is worth buying the season pass. I encourage people to buy their pass in April when it goes on sale, then you save even more. If you don’t go often, you can buy a twilight pass to go during the evenings and weekends. This is a good option for working parents who won’t be home during the day.

Make sure to check the schedule online for any early closings for swim meets, although that doesn’t happen often. Also, inclement weather will close the pool for a while. It’s just not safe to swim in a lightning storm. But on any other day, the pool is open from 11:45 am until 8:00 pm and is a nice relaxing day with the kids. Saturdays and Sundays the pool closes at 7 p.m., and Sunday the pool opens a little earlier at 11 a.m.

Fathers swim for free on Father’s Day, so keep that in mind if you want to bring dad to the pool this summer. Don’t forget the sunscreen, and have a blast this summer at the pool!
