Inspirational Teacher Kerry Anne Engdahl Loses Battle with ALS

The Oswego community rallied around the much-loved Churchill Elementary teacher as she fought crippling disease.


Former Churchill Elementary School teacher and community inspiration Kerry Anne Engdahl has died after being diagnosed with ALS in 2011.

Engdahl died during the night Tuesday.

Engdahl became a source of inspiration for the Oswego community through her Always Laugh and Smile Team. The team participated annually in the Walk to Defeat ALS at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. The team raised more than $13,000 in 2012 and more than $10,000 in 2013.

Engdahl worked as a teacher at Churchill, and the outpouring of support from the Churchill community was a constant. Fundraisers as recent as a May garage sale were held often to help the Engdahl family through the battle.
