Library's Summer Reading Program Includes June 4 YMCA Concert

This summer's theme is A Midsummer Knight's Read.

Let’s get the whole family reading this summer! The is once again sponsoring summer reading for infants to eighth grade, plus teens and adults.

Summer reading begins on June 1 with many fun activities and programs for kids at both the Oswego and Montgomery campuses. The theme for Summer Reading is A Midsummer Knight’s Read so be sure to pick up a brochure to check out what’s being offered. They are available at the Youth Services desks at both campuses. There are drop-in programs, as well as special events and programs requiring registration.

One of the special events is a Jim Gill concert for families with 1 to 8-year-olds. Join us at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at the at the old Traughber Junior High School on Washington Street. Bring a blanket so everyone can enjoy the concert together.

Jim Gill is an award-winning musician and a favorite of ours. Tickets are required! You can pick them up at the Youth Services desks in Oswego or Montgomery beginning May 25. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

There will also be a Reading Challenge for families with infants to 14-year-olds. For each week this summer that your family reads three hours together you receive one entry into our prize drawing for family prize packages. Adults or children may read aloud or the family may listen to an audio book together.

Books may be any format; board, picture, chapter or nonfiction that are age appropriate for the children in the family. Books logged may also be entered on individual reading logs. Pick up your Family Reading log at the Youth Services Desk. Completed logs must be turned in by Sunday, Aug. 7. All family members listed on completed logs will receive a special bookmark.

Adults and high school age teens can also participate in Summer Reading. Just read or listen to six books and log them online at the library website www.oswego.lib.il.us beginning June 8. 

Just select the Summer Reading logo to register. There will also be weekly prize drawings beginning July 2. , and the are providing adult and teen summer readers with gift certificates to their stores. To qualify for the weekly drawings you must have logged a minimum of two books. All logs must be completed by 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7.
