LUNAFEST Fundraising Film Festival Raising Awareness on Women's Issues this Friday

The annual film festival will take place on April 19 at 7 p.m.

LUNAFEST®, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues will be hosted this year on Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m.

The Village of Oswego Women’s Topics Committee is putting on the event for its fifth year in Oswego, although the venue has changed.

Patty Lariviere, the women’s topics committee liaison for LUNAFEST, said this year the venue has moved to the Copley Theater in Aurora at North Island Center and 8 East Galena Boulevard.

“LUNAFEST has just grown so much that we’ve sadly outgrown Oswego,” she said. The event previously was held at Pearce’s Ford at Fox Bend and about 100 people attended. Lariviere said between the seating, the h'orderves and vendors it was getting crowded.

So far Lariviere said 100 people have signed up and they are expecting more.

The film festival is dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities. It will feature nine different films, the longest being about 18 minutes and the shortest three, said Lariviere.

There will be an intermission for the attendees to discuss the films.

Tickets cost $20 prior to the event and can be purchased at Oswego Village Hall, and $25 at the door.

All proceeds from LUNAFEST will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and Mutual Ground, Inc. of Aurora, the second of which is the Women’s Topics committee charity of choice, said Lariviere.

Thus far, LUNAFEST, which is created and funded by LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®, has raised over $360,000 for Breast Cancer Fund and over $570,000 for other women’s non-profit organizations.
