Photo Slideshow: Midwest Mardi Gras Raised $8,000 for Local Children

About 230 people attended the event, which benefited CASA Kendall County.

On Saturday, the Oswegoland Optimist Club hosted the Midwest Mardi Gras fundraiser at Whitetail Ridge Golf Club in Yorkville. About 230 people attended the event, which benefitted CASA Kendall County (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

The event raised approximately $8,000, which will be used to provide CASA services for eight Kendall county children. CASA members act as a voice in court for children who have suffered abuse or neglect.

Guests at the party were treated to traditional Louisiana food, including gumbo, po’ boys, dirty rice, and crab cakes. Dessert was provided by Cupcakes 2 Remember in Oswego.

The Oswegoland Optimist Club hosts a variety of events and fundraisers throughout the year, all to benefit the youth of Oswego. Upcoming events include an Easter egg hunt, golf outing, pumpkin race, and more.

Oswegoland Optimist Club member and host of the Midwest Mardi Gras, Cathy Katz, said: "The Oswego Optimist Club worked very hard to pull this event together, and we're so appreciative of all of the support from local individuals and businesses. Like it's been said, it takes a village to raise our children, and if we all do our part, we will all have a brighter future!"
