Oswego Bike Trails Hit a Bump, Construction Expected for Spring

Find other bike trails in Oswego to ride in the meantime.

Some Oswego residents might remember the Mill Road bike trail project that was supposed to launch this last spring.

As many can see, it isn’t there.

Public works director Jerry Weaver acknowledged the delay and said it comes on the heels of some requirements by IDOT.

“When we extended the bike path IDOT required some additional environmental components,” said Weaver. “That’s being finished up now.”

He said he hoped the Village would get the go ahead from IDOT late this fall or in the winter and the path should be built the spring of 2014.

The Mill Road path will extend between Route 31 and Orchard Road.

Another bike trail that will be built in the next couple of years is the Route 71 bike path that will go from Douglas Street to just east of Route 34. It will be 10-feet wide for pedestrians and cyclists to use.

That trail also depends on IDOT with the construction on Route 71, which is currently seeing two additional road lanes put in and a waiter main project.

Weaver estimated that construction might also begin on the Route 71 in 2014.

In April the Village received a $15,000 grant to go towards the bike trail.

So while all of these trails are yet to be made, where can you bike around Oswego?

There are plenty of paths throughout the Village, from the Fox River Trail that starts at Hudson Crossing Park to the Grove Road Trail that ends at Waa Kee Sha Park and many more.
