A panel of judges taste-tested pizzas from seven Oswego-area restaurants at the Columbus Club on Saturday and made some tough decisions.

Denise Ryan of the Oswego Junior Woman's Club said the following winners were chosen by a panel of celebrity judges:
  • Best sausage: Genoa Pizza, 4538 Route 71, Oswego
  • Best pepperoni: Genoa Pizza Ten
  • Best specialty: Tony Weeds BBQ Chicken Deluxe Pizza

Judges includes Oswego High School Varsity Football Coach Brian Cooney, Oswego Fire Chief Michael Veseling, Oswego Police Capt. Jeff Burgner, Republican state representative candidate (50th District) Keith Wheeler and former Oswego Patch editor Natalie Stevens. Sponsors  Bridgeview Bank, Fine Line Services and The Cantina were also represented on the judging panel.

Guests of the event, which benefits the Oswego Junior Woman's Club's charitable efforts, also sampled the pizzas, and chose Tony Weeds, 1039 Oliver Ave., Aurora, as the People's Choice winner.

Odd that the OSWEGO Junior Womens Club met in Aurora and chose an Aurora pizza place. Wonder why the 10 pizza providers in Oswego didn't all participate if asked.

Looks as though the contest was for "Oswego area". I went - Tony Weeds is great pizza. They earned my vote.
