Oswego Presbyterian to Host Live Nativity For Holiday Season

The free live nativity will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, Sunday, Dec. 18, and Friday, Dec. 23, at the church at 1976 Route 25 in Oswego.

When brainstorming ways to reach out to the community this holiday seasons, members of landed on hosting a live nativity.

“We want to see if we can encourage people to think of Christ at Christmas time,” said Associate Pastor Jack Lilley. “And we thought a live nativity would make it appealing to people and families to find out what Christmas is about.”

The free live nativity will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, Sunday, Dec. 18, and Friday, Dec. 23, and include brief performances, farm animals such as a donkey, cow, sheep, goats, chickens, and possibly a llama provided by Yorkville’s Maple Lane Farm, and coffee and hot cocoa.

Attendees will park their cars then walk up to the manger scene and watch Oswego Presbyterian Church members pantomime the story of Christmas while the Scripture of Jesus’ birth is broadcast over a loudspeaker.

Church officials are calling the live nativity event “A Moment at the Manger.”

“Life is really busy at Christmas time. People are shopping and traveling and (the month) can get full of parties and pageants,” Lilley said. “Sometimes those activities can crowd out Christ so we’re hoping people can take a moment to think about the meaning of Christmas and remember what it was all about in the beginning.”
