Oswego Siblings Snag a Box of Twinkies for Dad’s Christmas Present

Meg and Tyler Tully get one of the last boxes of their dad's favorite dessert to put under the tree.

One gift that was always under the Tully family Christmas tree was a box of Twinkies for dad.

But when Hostess went bankrupt and closed earlier in November, that gift seemed very far out of reach for Oswego siblings Meg, 20, and Tyler, 14.

Meg Tulley said the cream-filled sponge cake had always been a favorite of their dad’s and they hadn’t known what they were going to do about their absence this year.

But Tulley said she saw the announcement on Patch about the last few shipments of Twinkies arriving at local Jewel-Osco’s and knew she had to get one.

She and her brother waited in line for from 3:30 p.m. until 9:40 p.m. at the Oswego Jewel-Osco on Orchard. Tickets were given out for boxes of Twinkies, and once the numbers ran out that was it, said Tulley.

She and her brother got two boxes of Twinkies after the long wait, but it was well worth it.

“We were so happy to be able to get him Twinkies for one last Christmas!” said Tulley.
