Seriously - do we need 4 1/2 hours of trick or treating? Most people aren't even able to start handing out candy until after 4:30/5pm.

110% agree and I have several ToTers of my own. lol There is no reason for it to start at 3:30 and no reason for it to be going until 8. We stop answering the door between 7:15 & 7:30. Lights out and all, but it doesn't stop them from ringing the bell.

Its one day a year not a big deal!¡!

Really. We should be servants to our children. It's the Godly thing to do. With comments like Kevman10's, no wonder our kids are growing up so cynical.

I agree; the hours now are long and some aren't even home at that time. 4 - 7:30 is sufficient time for the little ones to collect their goodies. The older ones start coming and apparently don't know how to read time. I shut down early, and it doesn't stop the ringing, etc. Some communities do it the Sunday before Halloween when most are home and its a neighborhood event and fun! All the kids are safe and in the day light. Isn't that one of our priorities....keeping it safe and fun for our kids? Just my opinion, however I hope some day the hours change and aren't so long.

JPauly - I have seen your comments and post on here before. Seems you're always trying to make something out of nothing. This has nothing to do with affecting kids and them growing up cynical - that statement is ludicrous to start. DON'T GET ME WRONG - I'm in favor of Halloween and the kids being able to enjoy themselves in their costumes with their parents and/or other family members and friends. I enjoy handing out the candy to them and seeing the joy the kids get from it. But, it seems like we keep starting it earlier and ending it later; it becomes harder for parents who work to be involved. Geesh - your statements sound like your outlook overall is cynical by nature. Take a chill pill, have a snack size Kit Kat or Peanut Butter cup and get off your soapbox. That would be the Godly thing to do...

We don't celebrate Halloween, it's a personal religious belief.

Devils holiday, quick go buy some chicken sandwiches!
JimmyJ October 08, 2012 at 10:22 PM
My kids are teenagers and I keep asking them why they don't go knocking on strangers doors begging for candy on other days besides Oct 31st ! LOL As for the hours, the older ones don't even start until after dinner. Maybe the hour setters would like to have age specifications too.

really people. If you think its too early or late then dont answer the door.
Tim October 08, 2012 at 11:34 PM
It's not personal if you advertise it on a public message board without anybody having asked you.
Walt Hines October 09, 2012 at 12:58 AM
Tim it must be a slow day for you if this is the only thing you have to comment on.

The long hours are so all familys that want to go out can....not everyone has the same schd. This way everyone can go out when they are ready. Some parents make kids do homework first then go, some wait until after dinner to do homework. Some familes work until 5 or 6 so having it till 8-830 helps them be able to have a quick bite and go out. etc. if you do not want to pass out candy that early or late dont. it is one day out of the year so i dont see the big deal. if you dont celebrate disregard this. and as for saftey, that is why as a parent you stay with your kid when they trick or treat and know where they are etc...hand them a map and have sex offenders homes marked so they know where to avoid. make sure they have a phone on them, and they know not to go inside houses/cars/back yards etc if you think they are old enough to go on their own.

To those of you who are complaining about the 4 and1/2 hours of trick or treating really, its for the kids I admit its a little early, but it is 1 day ayear when you were a kid didnt you want to get out there and start knocking as soon as you could. We keep on giving until we r out of candy if they keep coming and we have cxandy they get it.
