Oswego Year in Review: The People That Inspired Us in 2012

From community service projects to being an inspiration to many, a look at some of the amazing individuals in the Oswego community in 2012.

Oswego is home to some pretty amazing people, there’s no question about that.

Over this past year there have been community members that have inspired us, given us hope and made a difference in people’s lives.

In no particular order, here are some people who should be given a nod for what they’ve accomplished in 2012.

  • Woman Battling Breast Cancer Inspires with Thoughtful Thursdays Campaign: Kim Jewett is 'surviving and thriving' with her acts of kindness program, Thoughtful Thursdays.
  • Oswego Woman Offers Encouragement with White Board on Michigan Avenue: Lauren Lawson is ‘The Girl With the White Board’
  • Local Paralympian Wins Gold in Individual 3km Pursuit: Oswego cyclist Joe Berenyi competed in a total of five events at the 2012 Paralympics.
  • Oswego Resident Changing Lives One Tattoo at a Time: Chris Baker, founder of INK 180, provides free cover-up tattoos to sex trafficking victims and old gang members.
  • YARN Foundation Owners Hope to Change Lives: John and Deborah Anthony hope open their non-profit center in Montgomery, where they offer GED classes and other community services. 
  • Eighth-Grader Donating Money from Business Towards Teacher with Breast Cancer: Kylie Schimmel sold her hair bows to benefit Piechowski at the annual Mothers and More Resale Sale at Long Beach Elementary.
  • : Jean Reese, owner of BootSweet, created a design to benefit a little Oswego girl and help with Cystic Fibrosis research.
