Taking the Plunge: Oswego Teams Take a Chilly Dip for Charity

About $94,500 raised for Special Olympics.

Hundreds of people trekked out to Loon Lake in Yorkville on Sunday to participate in the 11th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge

With temperatures hovering around the freezing point, teams from across the area, including several from Oswego, braved the even colder water temperatures to raise money for Illinois Special Olympics. In all, the 282 people who took the plunge raised about $93,000.

According to Cheryl Depaepe, the event's organizer, about $110,000 was raised during last year's event.
