Video: Off to the Pumpkin Races

Hundreds turned out for the third annual Pumpkin Races put on by the Oswegoland Optimist Club.

The Oswegoland Optimist Club's third annual Pumpkin Races were held last Saturday afternoon.

The event had racers pit their pumpkins against one another to see which decorated pumpkin was the fastest down the hill. Many of the pumpkins featured different animal designs -- like an elephant, cat and chicken -- to movie characters -- like a Minion from Despicable Me and Mike from Monsters Inc. -- to many Halloween-inspired designs.

The pumpkins went off by age group to find the fastest pumpkin of them all. Any pumpkin though caught not adhering to the rules was called a "Cheater Pumpkin" and met a pulpy end from the Oswego Police Department.

Oswegoland Optimist Club president Ron Elvin served as the referee for the races.

Tell Us: Did you go to the pumpkin races? What was your favorite part?

How many Oswego police does it take to handle the out of control pumpkins, and crowd. Glad to see my taxdollars working hard.

This was a great event! Thanks to all that were involved. Events like the pumpkin races help create a great sense of community for Oswego. It was great that the OPD was able to participate, also.

The bald cop that smashed the pumpkins is not a nice man, I've been bothered by him before. He harasses innocent people. Go ahead and flag this comment as inappropriate again. Truth hurts. Freedom of speech is dead.

Boo-hoo, someone must have gotten a ticket from the bad bald cop. I am sure OPD is so bored with nothing to do that they now just randomly harass innocent people. They probably do it just for fun. "Turd" seems fitting...

It was a great afternoon and a lot of fun! Kudos to all who participated and helped out! The third annual Great Pumpkin Race was a success as was the first and second. Looking forward to next year and the 4th annual Great Pumpkin Race!
