Weekend Grab Bag: Garage Sales Galore, Plays and a Terror Trail

What fun are you going to pull out this weekend and beyond? Local events abound in the Patch lands of Oswego, Montgomery and Yorkville.



Friday May 13

Oswego Community Garage Sales, throughout Oswego
The Scoop: Sales start at 8 a.m.
Inside Info: Walk, drive and bike Oswego to find some treasures.

Luxembourg to USA: A Migration Story, a special exhibit at 20 E. Downer, Aurora
The Scoop: Aurora Historical Society presents this special exhibit from 5 to 8 p.m. at the David L. Pierce Art and History Center in downtown Aurora. Free. 
Inside Info: The exhibit was funded and created by the government of Luxembourg, and was first shown at Ellis Island in 2007.  This will be the first Illinois showing. Reulands will cater, Oberweis Dairy is providing free ice cream.

Oswego Playhouse presents "Death on the Nile," 123 Washington St., Oswego
The Scoop: Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m., with doors opening at 12:30 p.m. All shows take place at 123 W. Washington, below the Tap House Grill in downtown Oswego.
Inside Info: “Death on the Nile” by Agatha Christie and directed by Daina Gielser. The story is about a newly-wed heiress who is found murdered on board the ship. Soon, every elegant passenger is a prime suspect!

Saturday May 14

Kayak AttackRiverfront Park, Yorkville
The Scoop: Experience Yorkville's Whitewater Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverfront Park, Rt. 47 and Hydraulic in the heart of the city's downtown area. Free.
Inside Info: Festivities for the day-long celebration will include vendor and exhibitor displays, paddling associations and demonstrations, free tours, on-shore kayak demos, raffles for free classes, tours, and an official ribbon cutting of the Glen Palmer Dam canoe/kayak chute from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and much more. 

Prisco Community-Wide Garage Sale, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora
The Scoop: A community-wide garage sale held in Prisco Community Center's parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: As many as 40 sellers are expected, assuring a wide selection of sale items and even better deals. The sale also will provide support for a good cause, with all proceeds from rental space benefitting the Creative Play preschool program.

Vivid Dreams Art Show, 60 S. River St., Aurora
The Scoop: Art, music and more from noon to 11 p.m. Free.
Inside Info: The second year of local "dark" art. If you enjoy tattoos and motorcyles, this is not to miss!

Vent Movement Spoken Word Show, 76 S. LaSalle St., Aurora
The Scoop: Show starts at 7:30 p.m. $10 donation.
Inside Info: Yahya, Danny Divine and others are bringing more poetry and more jazz to downtown Aurora. Homecooked food, $1 massages, Mary Kay and more.

, Saw Wee Kee Park, Oswego
The Scoop: Check in at Scoreboards for the four-mile run. Cost is $35.
Inside Info: Not for the squeamish! Cost includes post race eats, a drink and a clean pair of pants.
