Artists Can Shine at the Kendall County Town and Country Art Show

March 5 is the deadline for entries into this year's show.

Do you like making crafts and knick knacks? Are you always puttering around your garage making stuff? Is painting your favorite way to relax? Do all your friends rave about your needlepoint or decoupage?

Then you should enter the . The show is accepting entries through Saturday, March 5 and is open to adults and students. The show will be held Saturday and Sunday March 12 and 13 at the in Boulder Hill.

The Town and Country Art show begin in Champaign more than 42 years ago. Since that time the show has spread to all the counties in Illinois. The best from each county go on to compete in the statewide show in Champaign later in the year.

“This is an exciting opportunity for local artists to shine," said Linda Wilson, one of the show's organizers. “I've been involved with the show for the last 20 years and it keeps getting better and better.”

The show has expanded to include demonstrations, performances by musicians and theatre groups, games and craft activities.

Anyone, adult or student can enter their work in the show. All entrants must be the original and, from concept to finished piece, must be the brainchild of the exhibitor. The Kendall County Town and Country Art Show has a wide definition of art.

Jewelry, sculptures, paintings, drawings, crafts, photography and nearly any other creative work. For complete rules for entrants, check the park district’s website.

Student entries are sorted by grade. The first- and second-graders are judged separately from the high school kids. Each group has a "Best of" award and are considered for the "Best of the Show" award. There is also a "Best of" award for adults and a "People's choice" category.

Judging will be by professional artist and art educator, Tim Burns. Burns teaches at the College of DuPage. His work can be seen at www.timburns-art.com .

This year's show has a great deal to offer in addition to the art exhibit. There will be quilting demonstrations and displays by The Quilter's Dozen. For the first time the Limelight Theatre Company will be doing make up demonstrations and face painting.

For the second year in a row the will be presenting musical performances by the students.
