YMCA Director's Mission to Serve the Community

Look at what's happening at your Oswego YMCA!

The Oswego Family YMCA is now a trusted and caring organization in the region projected to serve more than 6000 members and participants in 2012. Every day, I wake up with a desire to see just how many lives we can touch here at the Y, as we deliver programs for every age and passionately want to turn back the onset of obesity in both adults and children. It is really quite simple; we can make a difference now or pay dearly in the future.  It is no longer a choice for us here at the Y, it is our destiny, we must strive to make a difference every day.

Our staff and volunteers are aligned to make the Y a top flight service organization with a mission so important to the improvement of the quality of life for our area. Teaching children values through youth sports or the life lessons of learning to swim are just a part of what your YMCA does in Oswegoland. This past summer over 1,000 children enjoyed Summer Y Day camp.  They were involved in a curriculum that engaged them in many ways; many did not want to go home at the end of programming day! We are pleased to annouce our new children’s preschool program opens on September 4th  at the Wheatland Salem Church here in Oswego! We are so excited for this new development led by Early Childhood Specialist/Coordinator Kathy Freiberg and Director Melissa Johnson. A big thanks goes out to Pastor Bob Butler and the entire Wheatland team for being so inviting-they love our kids!

Now that is the beginning of Fall and our youth are back in school, it is a great time to check out Fall YMCA youth sports, such as flag football and basketball leagues.  The Oswego Family YMCA also offers music classes via Fox River Academy of Music and Arts and martial arts via West of the Moon for Y members and others.  I hope you will come by the Oswego Family YMCA even if it's for a first time tour to see how you and your family can be a part of the this wonderful organization. We just completed our summer maintenance and improvements thanks to a grant from the UPS Foundation and now look forward to some new cardio equipment coming within a few weeks. Come check out our Fall group class schedule–restart your exercise program (I am doing so as well)! It's ok to take time away, but coming back is the name of the game!
