When and how did your business get started?

I started my business in 2001 after my Mom died from lung cancer. After her diagnosis in 1998 I did lots of research about lung cancer. I learned through this research that it is possible to get lung cancer as a non-smoker and that scared me.

I learned that radon gas is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and that Kendall County and much of the State of Illinois have high potential to have elevated levels in our homes. This was like a call to action for me.

I took all of the necessary classes as well as the state test and received my professional testing license through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. Of course, the first house I tested was my own and it had a level of 38.0 pCi/L, which is more than 9 times the action level of 4.0 pCi/L. I had my home mitigated and now that radon level stays below 1.0 pCi/L.
