Chamber Notes: Election Day is Today

Next week we celebrate one of the most important holidays of the year: Veterans Day.

This is the day, Election Day 2012.  Even with the option of early voting, I
always choose to vote at my polling place early in the morning on Election Day.  It’s my tradition.  As a reminder, the polls remain open until 7
pm so if you haven’t already voted, you still have time.  Don’t miss out, “git er done”.

What I consider as one of the most important holidays of the year will be celebrated on Sunday. On the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, many will pause to remember and acknowledge the service to country by those veterans who served in all American wars.

I recently learned from an article by VFW Commander-in-Chief John Hamilton that veterans are now a distinct minority in American society.  In fact, Hamilton notes that there are less than 23 million vets today representing only 3.3% of our adult population.  Despite these
relatively small numbers, you can count on parades, ceremonies and speechesacross the nation and here in the Fox Valley in honor of our military veterans.

We’ll be honoring veterans in Oswego with a Memorial Service with the legion color guard, rifle salute and bagpiper at the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza on Main Street just west of the Oswego Public Library.  A luncheon will be held following the service at the American Legion Post 675, 19 West Washington St., Oswego.  For more information call:  630-554-8751.
