Chick-fil-A Making Plans for Route 34

Popular fast food restaurant could break ground this summer.

National fast food chain Chick-fil-A has submitted preliminary plans to the village of Oswego for a store on Route 34. The proposal is for the empty lot between the Vitamin Shoppe and Starbucks near Douglas Road.

Michael Cassa, executive director of the Oswego Economic Development Corp., said Tuesday night that the company had submitted its plans this week. If the planning process goes as planned, Cassa said the project could break ground this summer.

"I've been working on this since I saw the amount of traffic their store got on Route 59 when it opened," he said.

The Route 59 location near the Fox Valley Mall opened last fall.

Cassa said the next step in the process will be to take the preliminary plan to an area-wide project review board made up of several local governing bodies. The plans will be tweaked and sent back to the company for refinement.

The final plans will then be brought to the Oswego Plan Commission and then on to the Village Board for final approval.

Cassa said the company's real estate representative contacted him in November to begin discussions.
