Construction Begins on Oswego Pier 1 Imports

Plus other construction and business updates around Oswego.

There's quite a bit of retail construction going on in Oswego.

Earlier this summer the Village of Oswego announced that Pier 1 Imports had plans to build in Oswego, next to the ULTA.

Well, building has commenced. So far the foundation has been poured, said Village Economic Development Director, Vijay Gadde.

The building is expected to open sometime in March, said Gadde, which is when the contractor will turn the building over to Pier 1.

And that's not all.

Potbelly's, Noodles & Company and Supercuts are expected to  make their debut sometime in mid-November, according to previous reports from the developer. Stay tuned with Patch for official opening dates.

And for anyone driving along Douglas it's hard to miss the large building going up next to the Buffalo Wild Wings.

That will be the new Panera bread, which is moving to a new location from its current one in the Oswego Commons

Rod Zenner, Community Development Director, anticipated that the new location would open sometime next spring.

The Lowe's building, as previously reported, has found a buyer. That buyer will then market the space to attract new retail establishments.

Village Administrator Steve Jones said the biggest hang-up with the Lowe's location is that the Lowe's owners, who did own the building, did not want to have to subdivide it.

"When we have a lot of other big-box stores it was hard for them to find a buyer," said Jones. The company did sell it to a single buyer, who will transform it most likely into three retail outlets with half of the building dedicated to one.

Discussions are also in place over the Dominick's, which Safeway Corp. is closing on Dec. 28 and withdrawing from the Chicago marketplace.

Gadde said Dominick's lease extends until 2022.
