Navy League Annual Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Luncheon

On Monday, December 5, 2011, the Navy League Aurora Council and the Rotary Club of Aurora will host their 42nd Annual Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Luncheon and the 25th Annual Ted Brattin Civic Youth Awards.  The luncheon will start at 11:30 AM at the Gaslite Manor, located at 2485 Church Road, in Aurora, IL.  The price of admission is $20.00 per person, which includes a delicious buffet lunch.  

The combined event will commemorate the attack on Pearl Harbor, honor several Pearl Harbor and Asiatic Fleet Attack Survivors who will be in attendance, and present awards to eleven students from local area high schools and community colleges for their outstanding civic service.  

The guest speaker will be Rear Admiral David F. Steindl, USN, who currently serves as the Commander, Naval Service Training Command at Great Lakes.  The Mooseheart NJROTC will present the colors at the event with vocalist support provided by cadets from the East Aurora High School NJROTC, which is the largest NJROTC unit in the country.  Representatives of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps Aurora Division will also be in attendance.

The Navy League of the United States is a civilian organization founded by President Teddy Roosevelt that provides community support to the men and women of the U. S. Navy, U. S. Marine Corps, U. S. Coast Guard and U. S. Flagged Merchant Marine, and their families, as well as to related youth leadership development programs, such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps and the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC).  

Currently, the Navy League Aurora Council is having a membership drive.  If you would like to join the Navy League through the council, the first year's dues for new members are $25.00, which includes a one year subscription to the monthly Seapower magazine.  Membership applications will be available at the luncheon or can be obtained by contacting Dick Ebeling at (630) 896-4941.
