Indies Only: One on One Fitness Provides Individual Attention

Rhonda Johnson happy to be part of downtown business community.

Rhonda Johnson opened to provide a different atmosphere for individuals to get fit. Her trainers devise exercise programs specific to the individual’s goals and clients work out in a private setting.

The first 10 years Johnson worked in the fitness industry, she worked in gyms.

“I always saw the same people doing the same things and they were all generally physically fit,” Johnson said. “I realized there was a great need for private training without the gym setting.”

Johnson said she opened her private studio in downtown Oswego to eliminate the gym feel and to offer services to individuals of all ages and abilities based on their individual goals. There are no machines. Instead, trainers incorporate items like stability balls, resistance tubing and free weights.

“We are the only studio of our kind in the area,” Johnson said.

All One on One Fitness trainers are educated and experienced. They are trained beyond fitness to help clients with post-rehab, pre-rehab, ability, balance, coordination and to train from the core, Johnson said.

“We give clients what they want and more. We are very, very unique in what we offer and I believe we are the best kept secret,” Johnson said.

Jennifer Emmer started with One on One Fitness about five years ago on the advice of a friend.

“I have a bad lower back that’s never been right, and I wanted to be stronger and also tone up,” Emmer said.

Emmer also thought she had bad knees but it turned out her quads were weak and that was hurting her knees. That’s only one of the things Emmer said her trainers have taught her.

“I love it and can’t say enough about it and the quality of the trainers,” said Emmer.

One on One Fitness serves a wide range of clients including: senior citizens, youth and athletes, Johnson said.

Training schedules are based on the client’s needs. Some clients come once each week; others come three times each week. Some clients come for three sessions to establish a routine and then do the exercises on their own at home. Group activities such as boot camp, trail clubs and Pilates are also offered, Johnson said.

Boot camp begins in April, meeting every Saturday morning at 7. Boot camp enrollment is $45.

Private sessions start at $40 per hour. One on One Fitness also offers small group training or partner training at a reduced cost. A current offer good through March 18 is three personal training sessions for $99.

Johnson encourages people to accept her offer of a free consultation. “Think about the future now and take steps to keep physically fit; it can’t wait.”

Johnson is proud that One to One Fitness has been going strong for seven years. She plans to stay small and impact people one at a time.

The location of her studio was literally an answer to her prayers and Johnson said she’s proud to be part of Oswego’s downtown community.

With more than 20 years of experience as a personal fitness trainer Johnson says, “I’ve always loved helping people with fitness and feeling good about their bodies. I love helping people reach their goals, whatever those goals may be and helping make their everyday life better.”
