When and how did your business get started?

Songs of Life Photography began six years ago when I purchased my first digital camera after using film for many years. I wanted to photograph my youngest daughter's track and cross country meets when she was a student at Yorkville High School.

I had been a children's photographer for several years after studying photography in college, so the natural progression was to once again continue with digital. Photography has always been a passion of mine, and after my youngest daughter graduated high school, I was able to devote more of my time to the business.

What is your business best known for?

My hope is that Songs of Life Photography will be known not only for the photography, but for excellent customer service and the uniqueness that defines the business. For example, starting in January and every month after, one day is devoted to fee less mini sessions in the studio, a portion of every session fee is given to an organization or group at the end of the year, and my main priority is the relationship between myself and my clients. That takes precedent over everything else.

Why did you choose the town you did to open your business?

I live in unincorprated Oswego, but my family and I do everything in Yorkville! Being in the Yorkville school district naturally brought us to the town that has most of our friends, and most of my clients! The studio is in my home, which has an Oswego address and is located just 50 feet from Yorkville. It is perfect!

What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?

Basically, my resolve and priority is to help everyone showcase who they are, tell their "story," and provide a session for them regardless of financial situation. Having a photography session is more than just images on a disk or a print on the wall. It is the people and memories that go with it that are most important and special, and that is what Songs of Life Photography is all about.

Does your business offer a special deals card or program?

Songs of Life is in the process of organizing a loyalty program, and recently finished a "portrait club" that offers specials and discounts. Moments to Remember is a prepaid yearly plan that offers a certain number of sessions, prints and discounts on prints and fine art. If you have more than one session with Songs of Life during the year, you will save money and receive extras.
