New Sushi Restaurant Coming to Oswego

The restaurant will open where Scotty's used to be.

Sushi lovers, this one is for you.

Hao Sushi Asian Cuisine plans to open in the near future in Oswego.

The restaurant will take over the old Scotty's location, 4571 Route 71, which closed in mid-2013. Previously the location was a Howey's.

Hao Sushi is billing itself as a Chinese and Japanese restaurant with, of course, an emphasis on sushi.

Two workers were at the location Saturday moving chairs outside and said the restaurant hopes to open in about two weeks.

Wohooo! I hope this is in the all you can eat for $19.99 made fresh to order format. Sushi ya and Sakura are my favorites but they are not very close to us.

It would have been nice to dig a little deeper into those who are opening it. Their past experience with restaurants and ask them why both Chinese and Japanese. These are two distinct cooking styles so unless their menu is going to be a fusion of the two I'm going to be scratching my head on this place.

Any new restaurant is welcome. I just hope they actually changed the sign on the outside of the restaurant.
Natalie Stevens (Editor) January 13, 2014 at 09:29 AM
The old sign is gone, Logansdad :) @Paul L. - I have been researching the company and owner with no luck whatsoever,I'm afraid, and the workers were unable to provide a phone number.

don't eat suchi.
Rachell (Eat The Burbs) January 13, 2014 at 09:50 AM
I'm just happy to see businesses opening. Hopefully this restaurant will be well run. I love sushi so it'll be great to have another place near home especially if it is AYCE like Forrest mentioned.
Paul L. January 13, 2014 at 09:51 AM
@Natalie, any luck through the village? Personally, I'd think any restaurant opening up in Oswego would welcome press to get the word out. One other thing, that's either the 3rd or 4th restaurant going into that location. So they have an uphill battle right from the start.

This is going to give Sakamoto a good run for it's money! It is a great restaurant but the prices are a bit high! Maybe the competition will help bring down prices.
Eric Rogers January 13, 2014 at 11:07 AM
Nice - will be great having another sushi option in the near area. I like Sakamoto but the smell of acetone just spoils the experience for me. Bad choice to put that place next to a nail salon IMO.
Roy Rumaner January 13, 2014 at 11:54 AM
I will stick with Rotary Sushi at FV Mall for quality sushi. No one else in the area is as good or inexpensive.
Mike N January 13, 2014 at 01:26 PM
I wish them luck, its not the best parking lot to get in or out of at times... and with the pending construction it will be a mess... Hopefully the food is good enough to keep people coming back... Sakamoto is decent food, but the owner/host always seems to be bothered that you are coming in to her restaurant and she has to find you a table.. competition can be a good thing

Another underfunded restaurant? I always cringe when I see a new business advertising with a handmade sign. Professional window signs can be done so quickly and inexpensively that you'd think they'd want to look more professional. There's a lot of history of restaurants coming and going in Oswego in a short period of time and far too many couldn't even afford decent signage.
Cindy January 13, 2014 at 06:08 PM
I don't even know what sushi is!
Mike N January 14, 2014 at 11:47 AM
is that a joke or have you been living under a rock?
Cindy January 15, 2014 at 07:56 PM
Mike, seriously, I don't know what sushi is. I have never had it or even seen it. I rarely eat out but I also don't live under a rock.
Mike Francis January 15, 2014 at 08:20 PM
If you like eating things that lived under a rock then you'll love sushi :)

Cindy, it is time to stop trying to be the Prohibitionist for the masses and get out and live life. Sushi is probably one of the healthiest foods you can eat.
Cindy January 19, 2014 at 04:41 PM
Roy, why would you say that? Just because I said I have never eaten sushi and that I don't know what it is doesn't mean I would never try it or that I think it's unhealthy! All I did was mention that I don't know what it is. Why would you call me a "Prohibitionist for the masses"???
Roy Rumaner January 19, 2014 at 09:52 PM
Cindy, are you not the same Cindy that is constantly preaching against alcohol on any thread that has anything to do with a store, restaurant or bar opening in Oswego? If you are then you should understand the term Prohibition and realize that it was over inthe 1930s. If not, then you share the name with her and there is no way I would know that.
Cindy January 20, 2014 at 06:34 PM
Yes I am the same Cindy who speaks up against alcohol and marijuana. And it figures you are one of those who would put me down for speaking up against using mind-altering drugs like alcohol and marijuana! You are setting a terrible example. How will we EVER get the pot smokers to understand why we shouldn't use mind-altering drugs, as long as grown adults think nothing of using a mind-altering drug in the form of alcohol? I have ranted against marijuana for years, trying to help all the pot smokers I see online, and their number one excuse is "Pot is safer than alcohol." I tell them we shouldn't smoke pot OR drink alcohol! How hard is that?? People need to grow up and set an example and not use mind-altering drugs to get buzzed, high, have "fun", etc. What a thing to do. I suppose you drink booze, right?? Even after all I have said over the years about why we shouldn't use alcohol?
Mike N January 21, 2014 at 08:20 AM
To Cindy... Your constant bragging about your rant against alcohol reminded me of something... Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If no one close to you has come up with this diagnosis yet (although i suspect they have and you are just not listening) , I urge you seek help immediately... we wouldn't want you to spend any more of your life in this fruitless effort....
Roy Rumaner January 21, 2014 at 02:44 PM
Cindy, damn right I would put you down for speaking out against something that is LEGAL. It is time to grow up and stop spewing all your bullshit against alcohol and pot. Alcohol is LEGAL!! Pot is now LEGAL in 2 states, soon to be 4 or 5. It is time to realize that people are allowed to do whatever they want as long as it is LEGAL. Also, I just bet you had a cow when President Obama stated that he didn't think pot was not any worse than alcohol the other day. I can just imagine you ranting and raving and throwing things around the room like the lunatic you make yourself out to be all alone in your house. Oh, by the way, since you think I am setting a bad example know this, I don't drink or smoke but I don't condone those that do. That in itself makes me a much better person than you could ever hope to be.
Laure VanAsselt January 22, 2014 at 09:57 AM
I think Cindy and others like her should spend their time worrying about themselves, not me!! Maybe if she'd smoke one she wouldn't be so nuts!!
WXOswego January 22, 2014 at 01:14 PM
I think this feed is getting way of topic. Can't we just be happy that there is a new business willing to open in our village who has high hopes of success. This boost jobs and boost our local economy. Just because you don't know what sushi is dose not mean does not mean you guys need to bicker over stupid stuff. Be adults. We all learn new things every day. Be happy for the business. Be village happy that our village is starting to thrive again.
Roy Rumaner January 22, 2014 at 11:13 PM
WXOswego, I am happy that a new business is opening up in town. What this thread has become a dissertation for and against the legal use of alcohol.
