The Oswego Hardee's restaurant opened without fanfare earlier this week.

The fast-food chain opened in the former Taco Veloz location at 2420 Route 30 near the Kendall 10 Movie Theater.

The chain, which specializes in charbroiled burgers, left the Chicago area in the 1980s but is making a comeback: A new location recently opened in Bolingbrook, and another will open in a former Burger King this year on Route 59 in Plainfield

A former Yorkville Burger King is also slated to be transformed into a Hardee's.

Are you glad to see the return of Hardee's? Sound off in the comments.

I like fast food as much as the next guy and eat it all the time, but after looking at the amount of calories and salt in their offerings, I would rather eat at McDonald's. A basic 1/3 pound burger is 840 calories and 1070mg of sodium. A Big Mac is only 550 calories and 970g of sodium. With 290 more calories and 110g more sodium than a comparable burger at McDonald's, you have to be crazy to eat there.

We ate at the new Oswego Hardees today (a Sunday afternoon) and the food was tasty, but it will be a long time before we eat there again. After we ate, we were in the women's rest room while an employee came in, used the rest room, and left without washing her hands. I walked up to the counter and asked to speak to the manager. The manager on duty was an extremely young woman. I told her what had happened, and pointed out the employee who did not wash her hands. The manager explained that this particular employee usually washes her hands, but that she was sick today, so she just went into the bathroom to throw up. I pointed out that washing one's hands after throwing up was at least as important as at any other time. The manager was completely unconcerned about my complaint. I stated, again, that people do not wish to eat at a restaurant at which the employees do not practice good hand hygiene. She remained completely unmoved by my comments, and I am sure that she had no intention of telling the employee in question that anyone had complained about her poor hand hygiene. (I was too stunned by the whole conversation to point out that an individual who was sick enough to be vomiting should not be at work, cooking food for other people's consumption.)

I would have to say that we do get some non-chain restaurants in Oswego. The propblem is that they do not stay open very long because of bad service or the food is just OK. I have yet to be wowed by any non chain restaurant in Oswego.
