After sitting vacant for nearly three years, Oswego's former Lowe's store, 2400 Route 34, is getting a new tenant.

The Oswego Chamber of Commerce this week shared an announcement from village Economic Development Director Vijay Gadde, who confirmed that Hobby Lobby is preparing to move into the site.

The craft and home decor retail chain will renovate the site and is expected to take up about 55,000 square feet of the building.

The store is expected to open in late 2014, according to the village, and will bring 35 to 50 jobs paying $14 per hour for full-time workers and $9.50 per hour for part-time associates.

"This culminates a one-year marketing effort by Oswego Economic Development staff in assisting Lowe's Realty in finding potential buyers and tenants," the village's announcement said. "Crafts and home décor stores were one of the targets because market data shows Oswego residents have to go outside of the community to buy items from these types of stores."

In November, Gadde confirmed that after the Lowe's building had sold, two years after the store closed in October 2011. Gadde told Patch that the building was likely to be divided into three retail stores.

@richard B. I so hope you are wrong. Not being a fan of meijer for a quick trip to the grocery store and hating Wallmart as a whole I really want a small grocery store in there. I miss Dominicks a ton.

If one of the other chains (Whole foods, Mariano's, Tony's, Cermak, Caputos) it would of happened already. Unfortunatly that area is already flooded with grocery stores Wallymall, Meijer, and Jewel. It's gonna be hard to fill it.
