Oswego Picks New Electricity Supplier; Savings on the Way for Residents

FirstEnergy Solutions, the village's new electric supplier, is offering a two-year rate of 4.75 cents per kilowatt hour.

residents and small business owners should begin to see a savings on their electric bills this fall, thanks to a new electric aggregation deal.

Village officials have selected FirstEnergy Solutions as the new electricity supplier for the community.The company is offering a two-year rate of 4.75 cents per kilowatt hour.

Customers who want to participate in the program — and the savings that come with it — do not have to take any action. Customers who do not wish to participate must opt out of the program. Eligible resident and small commercial accounts will receive an opt out letter which they must sign and return within 14 days if they do not want to be in the program. Otherwise, they will automatically be enrolled.

Individuals who have already switched their electric account from ComEd to an alternate supplier and wish to opt in to the village's program can do so at any time by calling FirstEnergy Solutions, Inc. at  866-636-3749 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  

In March, Oswego voters gave the village the go-ahead for electric aggregation, which is the practice of “bundling” electrical loads of communities to seek a better price.
