Part of Lowe's Building May be Bought by Nationally Recognized Retailer

Plus, the Village is looking at Trader Joe's and Mariano's for possible replacements for Dominick's, a Radio Shack could be coming to town and more business news.

There have been quite a few more updates to the business side of Oswego this past week.

Lowe's

The Village recently announced that the Oswego Lowe's building had a potential buyer interested in the property.

Steve Jones, Village Administrator, informed the public at Monday night's intergovernmental meeting that Lowe's has now officially been bought by a developer.

"They plan to subdivide it into several smaller components... either two or three spaces," said Jones.

And one of those spaces may be bought by what Jones called a "national retailer," that the Village is currently in negotiations with.

"We can't say the  name right now, but you will recognize it," he said.

Radio Shack

Is there a Radio Shack in Oswego's future? Maybe, according to Jones.

"Radio shack may be sniffing around," said Jones.  "We have a shortage of electronic type retail stores," and he said it was one of the establishments asked for in the business survey last spring.

Dominick's (maybe Trader Joe's or Mariano's?)

Safeway plans to pull its Dominick's grocery stores out of the Chicago market by the end of this year.

The Village has discussed plans for the building, which is currently under lease until 2022.

Jones said the the 60,000 square foot store has been put up to bid, as have all Dominick's stores in the area, but he is not aware if a bid has yet come in.

"We're doing our darndest to deliver retailers," he said. "The market is changing... we have this great space."

As for the frequent requests for a Trader Joe's or Mariano's, Jones said, "We're trying. We'll have to see."

If Dominick's is unable to sell the property, Jones said the chain could potentially sublease or work out a deal with the owners of the retail center.

Win Soon Inc.

The South Korea-based dairy developer is officially coming to Oswego.

The company will be transforming a 45,000 square foot warehouse space to about 66,000 square feet at 190 Kendall Point Drive to process and bottle their Epoca brand beverages, consisting of probiotic yogurts, smoothies and more.

Jones said the facility would employ about 180 people.

Any guesses on the possible retailer moving into the Lowe's building?
