Residents React to Art's Barber Shop Closing

Dan Koukol, Kendall County Board Member and life-long resident of Oswego has been going to Art's Baber Shop for 40 years.
"I started when I was one and a half years old," Koukol said. "I have gone there for 40 years."
Art's owner Jim Mayer posted a sign that the shop will be closing its doors at the end of August.
When he was a child, he would go get his hair cut and stop at a local store for candy after.
"I used to walk down there after school," he said.
Koukol was not the only person sad to see Art's close. Peggy Sutton commented on our original story.
"Oswego will not be Oswego without Art's'" she said. "It is irreplaceable, and we will feel the loss of more of our history here."
Like many of the residents of Oswego who are loyal to Art's Barber Shop, Koukol does not know where to begin to get a new person to cut his hair.
"I will be honest with you, I don’t know what the hell I am going to do,” he said. "I think I am going to bounce around untiul I find what I like and its not the haircut, it’s getting the local news."
David C., who commented on the Oswego Facebook page was looking for suggestions on a new barber.
"It won't be the same but our hair still grows," he said.
And Facebook friend Beth J. said the shop was always a good place to hear about the town
"...good place to learn all the town gossip while you were waiting your turn," she said.
Koukol was not exactly surprised by Mayer's announcement to close the shop because he and his family were moving.
"He’s been talking about this move about five to eight years," Koukol said.
