Women's Self-Defense Class Has Great Turn-out

Women's Self Defense Class Very Successful

Saturday, March 10 was a very special day.

I had the pleasure of standing in front of a group of 60+ women and sharing the inspirational story of how this self-defense class came to fruition.  Further, I had the opportunity to witness self-esteem being built in women throughout the room.

I was honored to hear all of your stories and grateful to have so many women from our community make their physical and emotional safety a priority.

Here's what some of the women who attended had to say:

Denise from Yorkville: "David Chacon of Victory Martial Arts talked about being self aware and seeking mentorship to keep yourself mentally strong.  I am thankful to have Colleen Clark Lay as my mentor.  She goes above and beyond!  All of her hard work to make this day happen was out of the goodness of her blessed heart.  She listens, and that means the world to me."

Donna from Chicago: "The Self Defense Class for Women was so much fun!  There was lots of hands-on training which left me feeling more secure and confident should I ever get attacked again."

Trisha from Montgomery: "I decided to take the self-defense class, so I could help prepare myself mentally and physically should I ever need to defend myself.  I was very intimidated and nervous. ... I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into or what I'd have to do at the class.  But once we got started, everyone at Victory Martial Arts were so very supportive, respectful and encouraging.  They made you feel comfortable, but also kept it real.

"I am so glad I went!  Now I've learned and practiced some moves and techniques that could help me one day, should I ever need those skills, and I have just a bit more confidence!

Ashley from Naperville: "I originally decided to go to the woman’s self defense class to help Colleen out with this wonderful project. Since I am new to the area, I also thought it might be a good place to meet other women. Before leaving for the class on Saturday, I had all of these thoughts and expectations of what the class would be like. I was afraid I would be standing awkwardly by myself in a room full of women that knew each other. I was greeted by very friendly and inviting coaches and leaders.

"... David Chacon spoke very passionately about not only physical strength but mental strength as well. Sometimes in life things happen at just the right time and, for me, this class came at a perfect time. A lot of what David spoke about are things I am currently working on for my own personal self improvement. The class was exquisitely put together. The organizers Colleen and David were very motivating and inspiring. I felt great afterwards and look forward to future classes at Victory Martial Arts Academy and future counseling with Colleen."

Thank you to everyone who helped to spread the word, teach, and participate in this unique experience!
