Fast Facts: Each team reached the semifinals of the Proviso West Tournament in their first appearances in the field, and they now face off for third place. Oswego is a senior-laden team that has been pointing toward this season for the past couple of years. Leading the way is guard Miles Simelton. A four-year varsity player with the ability to shoot from well beyond the three-point line, he is one of the top unsigned seniors in the state. Elliot McGaughy joins Simelton in the 1,000-point club at Oswego. Oswego dominated Homewood-Flossmoor in the quarterfinals before falling to Proviso East, a team Oswego beat at its Thanksgiving tournament, 79-55 in the semifinals. Stevenson is one of the most intriguing teams in the north suburbs, led by one of the state’s top sophomores in explosive guard Jalen Brunson. He is climbing the ranks nationally and has already visited several major Division I programs as his recruiting continues to heat up. Stempel hit some big three-pointers in the Patriots’ quarterfinal win over Maine South. Stevenson fell to Morgan Park in the semifinals, 67-52.

Quotable: “I’m no dummy, give the ball to Miles,” Oswego coach Kevin Schnable said when Simelton reached 1,000 career points earlier this season. “He’s our guy. It’s just a credit to his four years. It’s been a long process. He’s paid his dues. We’re excited to see what he can do to lead us.”
